frozen midnights
Orange leaves and the purple pink skies have never treated me quite right.
Nights weren’t long enough for me to put myself to sleep
So, I turned up the music and drowned somewhere between the moonlit airspace
And the lousy blue chords.
But you pulled me right out of the air crash,
Pulled me right out of the bourbon waves and into your arms.
So now the days are longer and I can smile livelier.
You said you always liked it that way.
I’ve put up a welcome sign on my porch
And lit it up with your favourite Christmas lights.
I’ve put a piece of paper with your name in it inside a red sock with a green ribbon
And hung it over my fireplace.
I’ve bought your favourite Christmas record so you should bring the player.
We’ll dance to it, drink your favourite wine and Santa will laugh when he falls through the chimney.
But I guess Christmas never came.
The clock hanging up above the fireplace is stuck on 11:59
And the calendar won’t move past the 24th.
So I spent the next 24 hours wondering if I wished for a little too much.
Did the sleigh not have enough space?
Maybe the lights weren’t bright enough to lead you here.
I spent the next 24 hours driving around the block and trace the streets
They are such brilliant blue tonite.
Sun shone and turned into darkness, darkness to demons,
But it’s still the 24th and time couldn’t quite make anything right.
Grey socks provide no comfort to the frozen limbs,
And I can’t spell what the sign on my porch says.
I forgot what this record was for, for I never once listened to it.
Lights got overcharged and exploded right in my face.
